What is a .heic file?
HEIC is the HEIF container variant holding HEVC (H.265)-encoded still images, the default photo format on modern Apple devices. It offers strong compression with support for high bit depth, wide color, and image sequences or bursts. Decoding requires HEVC support, which is patent-encumbered and not universal.
How to use this file
Use an example HEIC to test Apple-photo import, HEVC still-image decoding, and conversion pipelines that transcode HEIC to JPEG or PNG for broader compatibility.
